The Constitution State

A brief introduction to golf in the state of Connecticut

The state of Connecticut is home to many special things not only for the golfing landscape of New England, but also for the country.

It is home to not only courses like Wampanoag Country Club and Shennecossett Golf Course, which feature beautiful Donald Ross designs, but also courses from the famed Charles Blair Macdonald collaborator Seth Raynor, including the Yale Golf Course that contains some of the signature template holes found on many of their layouts, as well as the public Wintonbury Hills Golf Course from none other than Pete Dye of TPC Sawgrass fame.

Additionally, the Connecticut State Golf Association, responsible for running the state's championships and handicap administration, is the oldest statewide golf association in the country. The state is also home to the Travelers Championship, one of the main events of the PGA Tour season and the Tour's only event currently staged in all of New England. Hosted at TPC River Highlands, the course features a thrilling layout, routinely sees exciting finishes, and has had a number of worthy winners, including New England's own Keegan Bradley, winner of the event in 2023 and 2025.
